Symptoms of Dog and Cat Allergies


Does your dog is regularly scratching or has become an obsessive licker? Then they are affected by some sort of allergies.  Allergies affect cats and dogs a lot. Dogs suffering from allergies often scratch and lick.

Dog’s allergies are a reaction of body immune substance after getting in contact with the foreign substance. In dogs, allergy can be categorized into three:
        Environment allergens
        Food allergies
        Flea allergy dermatitis

In dogs, symptoms of an allergic reaction are as follows:
        Constant licking
        Itchy, runny eyes
        Chronic ear functions
        Itchy ears
        Sneezing
        Vomiting
        Diarrhea
        Red inflamed skin
        Hives
        Itchiness
        Swelling on the lips, eyelids, face, earflaps


When a cat’s immune sensitive to certain things, then the situation of these allergies is quite dangerous. The body of cats tries to get rid of allergens and it shows certain symptoms.
General Symptoms of Allergies Found in Cat
        Paw chewing
        Swollen paws
        Diarrhea
        Itchy and runny nose
        Coughing
        Sneezing
        Itchy skin
        Vomiting
        Snoring

There is no cure to treat allergies in cats and dogs. One can decrease the exposure to allergens to cats and dogs.

Avoid Allergens
Allergens include pollens, molds, grasses and mites. Its elimination might help in controlling the symptoms of allergies. This can be done by keeping windows closed and running air filters in the house. Select cotton for their bedding. Wash the bedding with warm water. Try to keep your dog and cat on linoleum. Try to avoid carpet. Cats and dogs must not be kept in dusty barns, damp basement, laundry room and garages. Rinse soap from the floors especially after mopping.

Make an appointment with the veterinarian so that you can get an accurate diagnosis. It will make your dog and cat feel better. Diagnosis of allergies is quite a complicated task but with the help of a veterinarian you can control the situation.
